Russia’s Oil and Gas Revenues Decline Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Russia's oil and natural gas revenues plummeted by 27% year-on-year in July 2025, dropping to 787.3 billion rubles (approximately $9.8 billion). The Finance Ministry attributed the sharp decline to escalating geopolitical tensions with the West, which have disrupted energy sales. January through July figures show an 18.5% overall decrease, with total revenues falling to 5.522 trillion rubles ($69 billion).
Taxes on oil and gas condensate extraction contributed 885.2 billion rubles ($11 billion) in July—a 34.3% drop from 2024. Conversely, revenue from natural gas export duties and extraction taxes surged threefold to 76.9 billion rubles ($960 million), highlighting shifting dynamics in Russia's energy export strategy.
